Ippo thinks about quitting boxing so that his mother doesn't overwork herself again. Ippo Prepares for his match against Saeki, the speed star, by trying to improve his movements and become faster. Ippo's match with Saeki has begun, but Saeki is so fast that Ippo can't land a hit on him. Ippo Is left with a blind spot after getting his eye swollen making it even harder to track Saeki.

After all, the guys are done with their matches they go to karaoke. Takemura lets everyone know Yamada is leaving so they give him a send-off. Aoki and Kimura fight their matches. Kamogawa wants Ippo to train his legs to get flexible muscles so that he can deliver a more powerful punch that can beat Volg.

Ippo meets Volg after Volg gets lost. Volg tells Ippo that he boxes so he can get money for his mother. The match with Ippo and Volg begins and the two boxers seem to get the edge over one another quite a bit. Ippo faints from his injuries and is brought to the Kamogawa boxing gym to recover. As he regains consciousness, he is awed and amazed at his new surroundings in the gym, though lacks confidence to attempt anything.

Takamura places a photo of Ippo's classmate on a punching bag and forces him to punch it. It is only then that Ippo feels something stir inside him and eventually asks Takamura to train him in boxing. Thinking that Ippo does not have what it takes, Takamura gives him a task deemed impossible and gives him a one week time limit.

With a sudden desire to get stronger, for himself and his hard working mother, Ippo trains relentlessly to accomplish the task within the time limit. The pacing is pretty good , the beginning was solid but the last few eps were just absoloutely moving, it's where we get a backstory on Kamogawa and Nekota's past. Most of the fights lacked in depth and tension that the past two seasons had. The few " fishing" filler episodes were pretty good also.

The biggest flaw I had with this season was the limited amount of creativity and repetitivity in plot elements. Aoki manages to a small arc somehow and Takamura has his world title match. There were a couple of new characters introduced most being minor for the part.

I feel like the opponents and their character writing is dropping in quality and creaitivity. The intros and outros were perfect. The OG electronic music is non exesential whatsoever.

The use of vocals, violin, and piano were perfect and really matced the tone and atmosphere of the story. The visuals were fantastic. They were quiet similiar to that of last season in terms of artsyle and animation. But the shading and the sharpness of the images have definitely improved. Memorable: Sort of Rewatchable: Maybe..
